Apprenticeship Scheme
The Association for Specialist Fire Protection in conjunction with ConstructionSkills is to introduce a Passive Fire Protection Apprenticeship scheme starting in the Autumn of 2009. This 18 months scheme is open to all newcomers to the industry and will lead to a National Vocational Qualification Level 2 in Passive Fire Protection.
The apprenticeship programme is designed to be delivered in a modularised manner by a mix of formal instruction off the job training, followed by non consecutive days of supervised on the job training at the employer level, with a final end assessment by an ASFP approved Assessor.
The content of the course is designed to ensure that the apprentice is able to understand the hazards and the safe working practices within this specialised trade and, upon completion of the training, the apprentice will be able to operate equipment and apply/install passive fire protection materials and or systems to industry standards of competence.
